Did God purpose a written record of His word? We need only look to our Savior, Jesus Christ, and His words when tempted by Satan in the wilderness.
Matthew 4:1-11
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
Each instance our Blessed Lord replies with the words, “it is written.” This establishes that a written record was purposed by God. How was it purposed then?
2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
To doubt the veracity of any portion of Scripture is to rely on one’s terminable judgment. Effectively one will end in creating their own version suitable to one’s carnal tastes. Truth becomes relative and we bring all things low; the denominator becomes man and his shady, mutable standards where there is no certainty whatever.
Finite man is subject to the Infinite God; this is the order. Man, the subject and Scripture applies scrutiny. To question the origin of the written Word of God betrays one’s unbelief.
Thankfully, there is guidance by Scripture itself as all those called into being must believe in and adhere to what we can characterize as an ‘irreducible minimum’ regarding true faith.
The Blessed Holy Trinity comprises God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.
Matthew 28:19
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
God chooses the elect for salvation.
John 6:44
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Jesus Christ, Son of God, born of a virgin.
Luke 1:31-35
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Jesus Christ the only mediator between God and man.
1 Timothy 2:5
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
Jesus Christ crucified for the sins of man.
Galatians 2:20
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Jesus Christ’s ascension to heaven.
Acts 1:11
Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
Jesus Christ will return in all glory, execute final judgment.
Romans 14:10-11
10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
One Word, One Triune God, One Truth.
