Every four years in America, we start afresh. Society is not subject to, or involved in, any coherent, developing plan. Political candidates are not in league, thus shaping society under a shared, secluded faith. Twenty-five consecutive years of deficit spending and seventy-five years conducting warfare outside the bounds of the famed United States Constitution both equate to mere happenstances, coincidences.
“Representative” is a term the hoi polloi takes to the extreme. Political leaders must do their jobs and the public’s as well (to include thinking). The semiconscious public absolves itself of blame and wrongdoing when things turn sour, which is repeatedly the case.
Followers focus on the primitive essentials, while leaders provide overall structure. A glorified version of the child/parent relationship. “Extended adolescence” is the official phrase for grownups conveying childish outlooks and behaviors into later life. This goes unnoticed as it involves the overwhelming majority. Hence, on the surface, societal behavior appears normal. Yet only those esteemed abnormal analyze how one defines normal.
A few exceptions within society define a representative as one who takes the riffraff’s ideas and applies them to central governance. The landscape shows that deficit spending and violating the United States Constitution rank high among the preponderance that simultaneously choose to overlook influential officials associating privately with “gallows birds.”
The commoner’s definition of a worthy political candidate is one who circulates and curries favor among people well-heeled. A view substantiated by voting records. The public invariably selects the candidates who first pander to the wealthy. Second, lavish their party’s hierarchy (gaining necessary approval). Finally, these would-be “public servants” employ mainstream media, raising public sentiment in their favor. Such intrigues mark the obscene state of the nation and the voting public.
Take the banal political debates (often televised). Those on stage have garnered the sanction of wealthy donors and their party. In recognition, the trifling public casts votes accordingly. Hence, the appearance of public sovereignty. Those candidates not invited to take part in the discussion, who may frequent my neighborhood, for instance, languish in obscurity.
Constituents applaud themselves merely for voting, claiming to be responsible, yet distance themselves from responsibility if alleged to have exercised poor judgment. Voting Democrat in 2020, for instance, was a vote for a porous southern border, military aid to Afghanistan, an economic shutdown, medical injections of altered genetic substances, willful civil unions, $16 billion in contributions to illegal immigrants…. Yet Democratic voters accuse their counterparts of insanity – and vice versa.
Both factions, comprising Republican and Democratic members, are right, for both are wrong.
The Scriptural analysis (nearly as old as dirt) is that humanity is involved in an immense struggle and incapable of righteous, free governance. And so it is.
